Banks in Odisha to remain closed on Nuakhai

Bhubaneswar: All the banks in Odisha to remain closed on Nuakhai that falls on September 1 this year.

As per an official notification issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department today, the Government of Odisha have been pleased to declared under the explanation to section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, read with the Notification of Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, dated June 8, 1957, the Public Holidays, expressly defined in the said explanation, that the Banks and other banking institutions in Odisha will remain closed on September 1 (Thursday) on the occasion of Nuakhai.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition of Odisha Assembly Jaya Narayan Mishra and former Lok Sabha member Kalikesh Singhdeo had urged the State Government to declare Nuakhai as holiday to celebrate the festival.
