Bhubaneswar: Man rapes girl on pretext of offering lift in Maitri Vihar

Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly raped a girl on the pretext of giving her lift in Maitri Vihar area of Odisha capital on Tuesday night.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim, the Twin City Commissionerate Police have arrested the accused, identified as Satya Satyanarayan Sahoo (31), a resident of Gadakana area here.

A case has been registered against him under Sections 341, 376 and 511 of the IPC.

According to reports, the girl, who hails from Jajpur and works in a restaurant here, was waiting for bus on the fateful day after her duty hours.

In the meantime, the accused reached the spot with his vehicle and offered her lift.

Later, he took the girl to a secluded place and raped her. Hearing the victim’s scream for help, locals reached the place, rescued the girl, nabbed the accused and informed the police about the incident.

Further probe into the matter is underway. The statement of the girl will be recorded under Section 161 of CrPC, said police.
