BJD’s Manjulata Kanhar elected Deputy Mayor of Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Majulata Kanhar was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) here today.

The Corporator of Ward No.22 was elected uncontested as the rival parties failed to field their candidates for the post in the Deputy Mayor poll.

Off total 67 wards under BMC in Bhubaneswar, the ruling BJD had won 48 Corporator seats in the urban civic body polls last month. While 10 wards went to BJP, Others (Independent) had won and 9 Corporator seats in Bhubaneswar. The Congress had not opened its account in the elections.

Manjulata was elected as the Corporator on BJD ticket from Ward No.22.

With this, BJD grabbed both Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts in BMC.

Earlier in the day, newly elected Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das had taken oath of office after winning big in the BMC polls.
