BJP Mahila Morcha takes to streets in Odisha capital over women’s security

Bhubaneswar: Members of the BJP Mahila Morcha, women’s wing of the BJP, today organised a rally in Odisha capital alleging failure on the part of the State Government in providing security to women.

Holding placards, party flags, banners and red bangles collected from various parts of the state, the members marched towards the State Secretariat and residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here, but were stopped by policemen mid-way. A scuffle ensued between the cops and the BJP Mahila Morcha members during the process.

They reportedly hurled bangles and water pouches at the policemen when the latter tried to intercept them. Police later took the BJP Mahila Morcha members into preventive custody. Some agitators trying to gherao the residence of the CM were also detained.

Opposing the acquittal of two accused in the Pipili gang-rape and murder case, they demanded resignation of the CM. As a mark of protest, the Mahila Morcha members had earlier announced to give the collected bangles to the Chief Minister.
