Branded with hot bangle, 28-day-old baby boy dies in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Superstitious act of branding babies with hot bangles in order to cure ailments claimed life of an infant in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district last night.

According to reports, 28-day-old baby boy of Ram Jani and Bharati of Petaguda village under Papadahandi block in the district was suffering from fever for the last four days.

The infant’s mother branded him with a hot glass bangle at his belly yesterday morning with a belief of curing the fever. However, the condition of the child deteriorated following which his parents admitted him to the district headquarters hospital around 9 pm.

Two hours later, the baby succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

On being informed, police reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
