Carnival treat to Odisha capital denizens on World Tourism day

The capital city witnessed a colourful carnival-on-road with dancers from all states organised by Odisha Tourism department and FHRAI, to celebrate World Tourism Day, here today.

“We had various stalls showcasing the different cultural, ancient and tourist places in the state. School and college students and various folk dancers also showcased their dances. This shows that Odisha has a great potential and has various opportunities available for tourism,” said Tourism and Culture minister, Ashok Chandra Panda.

The carnival was flagged off by Odisha governor S C Jamir, and ran from Master Canteen to Rupali Square. Crowds enjoyed various dance programmes, cultural programmes, vintage bike and car show. Bollywood actor Mahima Choudhury rode pillion in one of the bikes while participating in the show.

Various folk dances from Odisha and other states as well as tribal dances were among the main attractions in the carnival.

Eight tableaux were exclusively designed for this cultural extravaganza. The World Tourism float led the carnival procession, while the Odisha Tourism float showcased different tourist destinations in the state.

Bands of Indian Navy, Odisha Police along with dance troupes from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Jharkhand drew wide applause from the spectators.

School and mass Education minister Devi Prasad Mishra, Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati, MP Prasanna Patsani were also present in the occasion.

The guests of Federation of Hotels and Restaurants Associations of India (FHRAI) and students participated in the event.

“We have truly celebrated World Tourism Day today. There is representation here at national as well as international level, with guests from US and Italian consulates also present here”, said Tejinder Singh Walia, FHRAI President.
