Ranpur (Nayagarh), Apr 8:

An FIR has been filed with the Ranpur police station against Satyajit Patnaik, the Congress candidate contesting from the Ranpur Assembly seat in Odisha, for alleged violation of the model code of conduct.

According to reports, Patnaik had organized a meeting of the party workers at the Domani Thakurani temple at about 2.30 pm on Sunday in which over 200 workers had participated. The workers later had a feast sponsored by Patnaik.

Following information, the Nayagarh collector had asked the junior engineer of Ranpur block to probe into the incident and submit a report.

Based on the report by the junior enigineer that the Congress candidate was trying to influence the voters by inviting them to the meeting in gross violation of the model code of conduct, the collector, who is also the Returning Officer, directed Ranpur BDO Gyanaranjan Bhanjadeo to lodge an FIR against Patnaik.

It may be mentioned that another FIR for violation of the model code of conduct has already been lodged in this constituency against the BJD candidate Rabi Narayan Mohapatra.
