Many persons in Bhubaneswar are returning without cash as numerous ATM counters lack cash. Many ATM counters shutters are half closed according to Sambad.
This condition of cashless ATMs is prevalent in Bhubaneswar and various parts of Odisha since a week.
They are only giving Rs 100 rupees notes while Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes are missing from the teller machines.
In Bhubaneswar SBI has 200 ATMS and above Rs 4 crore is dispensed out of these machines everyday.
On enqiry the Bank officials said that cash flow from RBI to put in ATMs has been reduced. SBI official added that this step has been taken to reduce circulation of notes in the state. And since instead of Rs Rs 500 and Rs 1000 only Rs 100 notes are dispensed they are getting emptied faster.
