‘Chicken, egg linked to coronavirus’ rumour hits Odisha poultry farmers

Bhubaneswar: Rumours of coronavirus being spread through chickens and eggs have affected the poultry farmers across Odisha, the All Odisha Poultry Forum (AOPF) said at a presser here yesterday.

Sale of poultry products have dipped significantly after the rumours went viral on social media. AOPF president Haramohan Dash urged people not to get carried away by such rumours and clarified that consumption of chickens and eggs don’t cause the disease.

Poultry farmers of the state suffered a loss of around Rs 100 crore in the month of February. A complaint has been lodged by the AOPF at the Cyber police station regarding the posting of rumours on various social media platforms.

Worth mentioning, around 4 lakh people in the state are associated with poultry farming for their livelihood.
