Child sacrifice attempt in Odisha capital! Police detain eight

Bhubaneswar: As many as eight persons were today detained at Khandagiri police station for their alleged involvement in trying to sacrifice a child on the pretext of conducting puja at an under-construction house at Raghunath Nagar near Dumduma in Odisha capital last night.

“At around 12.30 am, eight persons, including the house owner and his wife, came to the spot with a child in a Bolero SUV and a garland was put on him. We also spotted a pit being dug at the house. When we asked about the occurring, the wife of the house owner scolded us and told us not to interfere in it,” an eyewitness said.

“We informed police about the incident following which cops reached the spot at around 1 am,” he added.

An FIR has been lodged into the incident by Dinabandhu Routray, a local of the area. The detainees were being interrogated at the police station till last reports came in. The car, bearing registration number OR02-BY-9104, has been seized by police.

As per the FIR, eight more persons had also arrived at the place on four bikes last night who later fled the spot along with the child after the locals questioned about the act.
