Cracks in Sri Mandir’s Nata Mandap, ASI tells Odisha HC

Cuttack: The beam of Nata Mandap (audience hall) of the 12th-century shrine-Sri Mandir in Odisha’s Puri has cracked and it could increase, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) informed the Orissa High Court today.

The ASI told the High Court that the crack came to its notice on examination after removal of plaster from the Nata Mandap, court sources said.

The High Court has sought a response from the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on when it can vacate Nata Mandap for repair and conservation, the sources added.

The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for January 17 next year.

On the other hand, the ASI informed the High Court that the repair and conservation of Beheran Dwar (south gate facing the Muktimandap)  would be finished by the end of February next year.
