Cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ over BoB becomes severe cyclone

Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ formed over southeast and adjacent east-central Bay of Bengal has become a severe cyclonic storm, informed the Regional Meteorological Centre here today.

The meteorological centre further stated the ‘Asani’ severe cyclonic storm lay centered 880 km away from Puri in north-northeast direction over Bay of Bengal.

The severe cyclonic storm has been advancing in northwest direction at 14 kmph in last six hours.

Earlier in the day, the meteorological centre said the severe cyclonic storm is very likely to continue to move northwestwards till May  10 evening and reach Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh & Odisha coasts. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.
