Deep depression likely to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The depression over Gangetic West Bengal has intensified into a deep depression which is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha during the next 48 hours.

“The depression over Gangetic West Bengal has moved west-northwestwards. It intensified into a deep depression and lay centred over Gangetic West Bengal near Latitude 22.5º N and Longitude 88.4 ºE, close to Kolkata. The system is very likely to move slowly west-northwestwards initially during next 24 hours and move northwards thereafter,” a bulletin of the India Meteorological Department said.

Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely to occur over north Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 48 hours, the bulletin said, adding that heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely to take place over south Odisha on October 10.

Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would prevail along and off north Odisha coast during the next 24 hours.

State of sea is very likely to be rough to very rough along & off north Odisha coast during next 24 hours for which fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea.

Local cautionary signal Number 3 (LC-III) has been hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur Ports.
