Depression likely to trigger heavy rainfall across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over Bay of Bengal is likely to concentrate into a depression and further into a deep depression, which would cause heavy rainfall in coastal and south Odisha, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted today.

“The low pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal and neighborhood now lies as a well marked low pressure area over the same region. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression during next 12 hours and intensify into a Deep Depression during the subsequent 12 hours,” a bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued at 1 PM said.

It is likely to cross north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast between Kalingapatnam and Paradip during late night of 20th and early morning of 21st September.

Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of south Odisha and coastal Odisha with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Koraput districts of Odisha on September 20.

Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over south Odisha with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Kalahandi districts on September 21.
