Elephant tramples Forest Guard to death in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In a tragic incident, an elephant trampled a Forest Guard to death at Baunsuli village under Rasgovindpur forest range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The deceased was identified as Chandrakant Rout.

According to reports, several elephants had strayed into the locality yesterday and were creating havoc. On being informed by the villagers, Rout reached the spot and was trying to chase away the jumbo when the pachyderm attacked and crushed him.

He was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the Rasgovindpur Hospital for treatment. The victim was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital here as his condition deteriorated.

However, he succumbed to the injuries and breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

On the other hand, the presence of the elephants in a forest near the village during the last few days has left the locals panic-stricken.
