Enrolment into B.Tech courses declines in Odisha; zero admission in eight colleges

Bhubaneswar: Like previous years, the students showed no interest to have enrolment into B.Tech courses offered in major engineering colleges in Odisha this academic session. Even there was no admission registered in eight private engineering colleges.

In view of lack of placement facility and growing number of unemployment after pursuing the engineering degrees, only 20 percent seats in B.Tech courses have been filled so far in the state. The seats are lying vacant in government engineering colleges in 2017-18 academic session too.

According to reports, only 8,152 seats have been filled out of total 43,000 seats so far in two phases both in 89 government and private engineering colleges.

While 670 seats are lying vacant out of total 3,870 B.tech seats in six state-run engineering colleges, around 35,000 seats out of 39,000 seats are vacant in 83 private colleges. Only, 12% (4,600) seats have been filled in the private engineering colleges mostly in Bhubaneswar.

The reports said that 8,000 seats have been filled in first phase, while only 152 students have been enrolled into B.Tech courses in second phase. Hence, the admission was disappointing as compared to previous years.
