Face of Nagada malnutrition dies of malaria in Odisha hospital

Jajpur: An undernourished girl who had become the poster child of the acute malnutrition prevailing at tribal hamlet Nagada in Odisha’s Jajpur district last year died while undergoing treatment at a hospital here.

As per reports, Manasi was undergoing treatment at Tata Steel hospital, Kaliapani for suspected malaria since last two days. However, she breathed her last today.

“My wife took Manasi to hospital as she was suffering from since few days. Two days ago she was admitted for treatment. But she died today,” father of the deceased child Khageswar pradhan said.

With the death of Manasi, the Pradhans are childless now as their elder daughter Tulasi (02) too had died in July last year.

The 22-month-old was admitted yesterday with complaints of fever. After tests, she was found to be malaria positive. She was to be shifted to NICU, a health official said.
