Finance Minister presents Rs 9421 crore supplementary budget

Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya today laid the supplementary budget of Rs 9,421.25 crores in the state Assembly for approval amid uproar by opposition members on various issues.

While the gross amount of the budget has been fixed at Rs 9,421.25 crores, the net budget stands at Rs 7144.58 crore.

The major chunk of the budget will be spent for the restoration and rehabilitation in cyclone and flood affected areas. The government has decided to spend Rs 2074.36 crore for reconstruction and rehabilitation in the natural calamities affected areas and Rs 30 crore in flood affected areas.

The government will spend Rs 12 crore for repair of buildings and structures and Rs 30 crore will be given for school uniform and book purchase that will be provided to the natural calamities affected areas. It will also spend Rs 8 crore for repair of restoration of river embankment.

Rs 94.45 crore has been allocated to set up police stations in Naxal affected areas in the state.

The government expects assistance from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB), which have assured it of funds for the cyclone and flood affected areas. Besides, it will get funds under centrally sponsored schemes to meet the supplementary budget.
