Former Odisha MLA arrested for misbehaving with woman

Phulbani: Former Phulbani MLA Debendra Kanhar, who went hiding after his sex video with a woman went viral, was arrested from Andhra Pradesh, police said today.

The Phulbani Sadar Police arrested former legislator from Ichchapuram in the neighbouring state this evening while probing a case was filled by the girl last month.

A case was registered against Kanhar, who is also accused of trespassing into a woman’s house and misbehaving with her.

The victim, a resident of Goudapada, in her police complaint filed on September 5 had alleged that the former MLA and his driver Rinku Sahoo had trespassed into their house and misbehaved with her and her mother on September 3.

A case was also registered against a woman who circulated the obscene video of Debendra.

Police had registered a case under sections 451 (house-trespass), 294 (obscene act), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (molestation), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 370 (exploitation) of IPC against the politician and his driver.

Later in the evening, Debendra was sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected by Phulbani SDJM Court.
