A two-phase meeting held in December last year at the SC and ST Research and Training Institute here had decided that expenses incurred on the education of the tribal students, including their tuition fees, courseware and other expenses, would be borne by the state SC and ST department.

As per an estimate, the department would bear expenses to the tune of Rs 30, 000 annually per student.

The public schools have been asked by the department to reserve 10 seats for tribal students from coming academic year.

Notably, the students will be enrolled from Std-I till high school and will be provided with boarding facilities at a model residential hostel built in Pokhariput area in the city.

A formal approval from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in this regard is pending, a source said.
