HC quashes death sentence of rape, murder convict ; orders release

OST Bureau Cuttack, Dec 29: A two-member bench of the Odisha High Court today quashed the death penalty awarded to an accused in the 2009 Rengali minor rape and murder case for want of sufficient evidence and ordered his release.

Minaketan Seth was accused of raping and murdering a minor girl in Rengali near Jharsuguda on October 9, 2009.

The Jharsuguda additional district judge court had convicted Seth and awarded death penalty to him in the case.
