Congress nominates Jay Narayan Patnaik for Puri LS seat as Sucharita Mohanty returns ticket

Bhubaneswar: Congress has fielded Jay Narayan Patnaik as its Puri MP candidate after Sucharita Mohanty returned the ticket.

“The Congress President, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, has approved the candidature of Shri Jay Narayan Patnaik (In place of Smt. Sucharita Mohanty) as party candidate for the ensuing general elections to the Lok Sabha from 17 — Puri Parliamentary Constituency of Odisha,” the All India Congress Committee (AICC) said in a press release.

Notably, Mohanty reportedly returned the ticket mainly for two reasons — no funding from the party for election campaigns and weak candidates for Assembly seats under the Puri Lok Sabha Constituency.

She claimed that she had brought the matter to notice of the AICC, but her request went unheard. Rather, the party asked her to fight the polls on her own strength, she said.

Puri is going to polls on May 25 in the state’s third phase of elections.
