Heavy rainfall submerges twin city in Odisha

Heavy rainfall under the influence of a low pressure has inundated several low-lying areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Besides, most parts of coastal Odisha have experienced heavy showers.

While Acharya Vihar and Jaydev Vihar areas of Bhubaneswar were flooded with rain water, normal life was affected in low-lying areas of Badambadi, Kesharpur, Raja Bagicha and Sheikh Bazar in Cuttack due to water logging.

According to Meteorological Department, the cyclonic circulation formed over south-west Bay of Bengal has turned into a low pressure. Under its influence, rainfall/thundershower is likely to occur at many places over Odisha, it said in a release adding that heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in coastal part of the state.

Strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph would prevail along and off south Odisha coast, the Meteorological Department predicted.

Sea condition is likely to be moderate to rough for which fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into it.
