Illegal gun manufacturing unit unearthed in Odisha

Talcher/Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: Police busted an illegal gun manufacturing unit in Odisha’s Angul district in the late night on Sunday.

According to reports, a team of Talcher police, acting on a tip-off, raided Badapada area and busted an illegal gun manufacturing unit in the late night hours on Sunday.

A total of 31 country-made pistols and 500 rounds of live cartridges were seized from the unit that was running inside a rented house.

Besides, police also seized other machineries inside the unit.

As per the briefings by the IG (north-centra range) PS Ranpise, police have arrested five accused while the prime accused has managed to escape.

“The police have started interrogation of the five arrested persons of the unit to ascertain the import of materials required for manufacturing of guns and live ammunitions and supply of these arms to the persons or organisations from this unit”, he added.

Briefing newsmen in Bhubaneswar today, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjib Marik said the state police, acting on intelligence input on illegal trading and manufacture of arms and ammunitions, had raided several areas of the state.

“The raids would continue to trace out these illegal arms unit”, he added.
