Impersonator arrested for defrauding farmers in Odisha

A man impersonating as the owner of a government-registered firm has been arrested and sent to jail following production before a local court in Odisha capital today.

Economic Offences Wing (EOW) had arrested one Janardan Sahoo for cheating and misappropriation of funds to the tune of over Rs 27 lakhs, which was meant for subsidy amount of farmers of different districts of the state.

Sahoo belonging to Kendupalli in Cuttack district impersonated himself as the owner of Odisha Krushi Vikash Organization which deals with construction work of shed-net house/poly green house. Following allegations against him, a case was registered on the written complaint of EOW DSP Tapan Kumar Mohanty.

An investigation into the case revealed that the accused cheated many farmers from different districts in the name of setting up merchandise cold storage, provide potato seeds, shed-net house/poly green house and embezzled the subsidy released by government, EOW sources said.

The accused was forwarded to the SDJM court here today.

A case under section 419/420/467/471/120-B of IPC was registered against him and further investigation is on.
