Jailed underworld don Chhota Rajan succumbs to COVID-19!

New Delhi: Gangster and underworld don Rajendra Nikalje aka Chhota Rajan reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 at New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Services (AIIMS) today.

Earlier, Chhota Rajan had tested positive for COVID-19 and was shifted to AIIMS on April 26.

However, Delhi police and AIIMS officials deny media reports of the 61-year-old gangster’s death.

After being deported from Bali in 2015, Rajan was lodged in New Delhi’s high security Tihar jail.

As per information, the gangster’s health condition deteriorated on April 26 and he was immediately shifted to AIIMS for treatment. An assistant jailor from the jail informed this to the session court on Monday over telephone.

Convicted of as many as 70 criminal cases of murder and extortion in Mumbai, Chhotta Ranjan was sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey in 2011.  However, the special CBI court in Mumbai, last week, cleared charges against the gangster and his aides in the murder of Hanif Kadawala.
