Jaundice cases rise to 116 in Odisha’s Cuttack

The number of patients afflicted with jaundice went up to 116 in Odisha’s Cuttack city today with the identification of 12 more patients.
While three patients were identified from Jobra area, nine others were identified from Thoria Sahi.

Most of the patients have been identified from Jobra, Thoria Sahi, Nayak Sahi, Badhei Sahi, Machhua Bazaar, Gamharia and Patapola areas of the city.

To provide primary health services to the patients and make people aware of the disease and its prevention, the district administration has opened two health camps at Jobra and Thoria Sahi.

Besides, special medical teams have been collecting blood samples for test.

“We have set up a camp at Thoria Sahi where the blood and urine of the suspected patients are being tested. We have provided vitamins and other medicines to the patients affected by jaundice. We are also distributing halogen tablets to purify the drinking water in the area,” said a doctor at the camp.

“We have advised the people to use boiled water. Besides, we have also provided Paracetamol and Udiliv tablets, vitamin syrups and Becosules capsules to the patients who have been tested positive,” said a pharmacist at the camp.

As informed by the chairman of the Health Committee, formed by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), the district administration has engaged ASHA and Anganwadi workers in other areas of the city for distribution of halogen tablets and leaflets to make people aware of the disease.

“We will open more health camps in the city if required,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Health secretary Arati Ahuja and director, Health today took stock of the situation at a meeting with the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) and the district collector. Later, they visited the affected areas in the city.

Talking to the media persons during the visit, the Health secretary admitted problems in the supply of drinking water supply in the city. She, however, said efforts are on to ensure supply of safe drinking water for which the district administration, Housing and Urban Development department and the CMC have been making sincere efforts.
