Jewellery worth over Rs 1 cr burgled in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: More than Rs 1 crore jewellery items and cash were allegedly robbed from a jewellery shop in Bhubaneswar late last night.

Sources at the Commissionerate Police said a special team has been formed after owner of the Lakshmi Narayan Jewellery shop where the robbery took place filed a complaint. The investigation is being carried out on the basis of footages of the CCTVs installed at nearby shops.

Owner of Lakshmi Narayan Jewellery shop located at Delta Square said the robbers broke open the shutter, door and strong room late last night. More than one kg gold and 10 kg silver jewellery items were looted from the shop. The miscreants also robbed Rs 1.5 lakh cash from the cash counter. A total of more than Rs 1 crore jewellery items and cash were burgled, the shop owner said.

Moreover, before fleeing the spot, the robbers took away the machine in which the shop’s CCTV footages were stored.

Taking advantage of the incessant rain late last night, the miscreants might have looted the jewellery shop in the city late last night, a local said.
