Journalist arrested for threatening Jogan Sahayika in Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Reporter of a web news channel was today arrested for allegedly threatening a Jogan Sahayika and her husband in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.

The accused, identified as Ranjit Pradhan, has been apprehended under Sections 294, 385 and 506 of the IPC.

According to reports, Pradhan had threatened Rebati Sahu, Jogan Sahayika of Samarbaga Panchayat in the district, of maligning her image by webcasting negative news against her regarding irregularities in distribution of PDS items.

Pradhan was also trying to extort PDS rice and money from Rebati and threatening her husband to kill him, she alleged. The woman had lodged a complaint in this regard with police on November 3.

As many as four cases are already pending against the accused, a police official said.
