Kandhamal killings: 12-hour bandh hits normal life in Odisha’s Koraput

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Koraput, Aug 3:

A 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Jana Surakshya Manch protesting the firing in Kandhamal in which five persons were killed, disrupted normal life in Odisha’s Koraput district today.

While shops and business establishments remained closed, private buses remained off the roads during the bandh, reports said.

Members of the manch were seen staging road blockade by burning tyres at several places in Semiliguda, Patangi and Sunki areas. Many goods laden trucks were reportedly stranded in Sunki and Semiliguda due to roadblock.

In view of the bandh, security arrangements have been beefed up in the district to avoid any untoward situation.

It may be recalled here that five tribals from Gumudumaha village were killed during an anti-Maoist operation near Kurtamgarh in Kandhamal on the night of July 8.
