The baby girl child was handed over the baby to GRP by a person named Md Badrujdoza hailing from Hatasahi of Pipili in Puri district, GRP sources said.

Anita, who hails from Bijapur of Karnataka, had lodged a complaint on this regard with the GRP on Monday after she failed to trace her girl child who went missing on March 8.

GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) R N Mohapatra said, “Badrujdoza who had reached Bhubaneswar station on the same day to board a train to Howrah took away the girl on his bicycle kept outside at the station parking.”

Quoting Badrujdoza’s statement, the GRP DSP said after noticing the photographs of the girl child in newspapers, he returned the child today to avoid arrest. “We are quizzing him to find out his motive behind taking the baby with him,” he added.

On being asked, Badruddoza, a farmer by profession, denied committing the crime.

“After seeing the baby crying, I waited for 30 minutes. When nobody paid attention towards her, I decided to take her on humanitarian ground,” he said.
