Life term for woman after son deposes against her

A local court here  sentenced a 36 -year-old woman to life imprisonment while convicting her for murder of her mother-in-law on the basis of the statements by her 11 year old son, who was the sole eye witness in the case .

Soumya Ranjan, son of the convict,  had narrated the details of how the murder was committed, leading to the conviction of his mother, said prosecution counsel, Bhimsen Bhuyan.

The murder took place on 12 November, 2012 in Diyanpur village under Pattamundai police station jurisdiction.

Kendrapara District and Sessions Judge, Bijoy Ketan Mohanty , adjudicating the case pronounced life imprisonment verdict yesterday on the basis of circumstantial evidence of the crime.

Angry over exchange of words, the convict Madhumita Sahu had beaten to death 65-year-old mother-in-law Sashikala Sahu. The accused had committed the crime in a sudden fit of rage.
