Mamita Meher murder case: Prime accused Govind Sahu nabbed

Balangir: Police arrested ‘most wanted’ Govind Sahu, who had escaped from custody, in connection with murder case of schoolteacher Mamita Meher, informed Balangir SP today.

He was nabbed from his younger sister’s house at Budhipadar village under under Bangamunda Block in Balangir district.

Govind Sahu, President of the Sunshine Public School, Mahaling, in Kalahandi district, and the prime accused in Mamita Meher missing case was absconding since October 17. He had allegedly escaped from police custody following his arrest in the missing case lodged at the Sindhikela Police Station in Balangir district.

The Balangir Police had announced Rs 1 lakh cash reward for sharing information on the absconder. Hours after announcement, he was apprehended by the police in the murder case.

The 24-year-old Mamita Meher had gone missing from school since October 8. Ten days after the incident, a body dumped underground was recovered at an under-construction stadium near the school today. Later, the deceased woman was identified as Mamata Sahu after her family confirmed that jewelries and purse exhumed along with the body belong to the missing schoolteacher.

Meanwhile, opposition parties in the State mounted pressure on the ruling BJD to dismiss Minister of State (Home) Captain Dibyashankar Mishra from his post alleging his involvement behind murder of Mamita Meher.
