Mamita Meher wanted to quit her job: Family

Balangir: Twenty four-year-old schoolteacher Mamita Meher of Jharni village under Turekela block in Balangir district was reluctant to resume duty after reopening of schools post COVID-19 lockdown. She wanted to quit her job, informed family members of the young teacher.

Today, the teacher’s body was recovered from underground of the under-construction stadium of the school, she worked in.

The family members claimed that Mamita, who worked as a teacher at Sunshine Public School at Mahalinga, might have taken the decision to quit her job after learning about the illicit activities going on in the school. They also claimed that Mamita had a video for evidence which would have unmasked the real face of several influential people, leaders and Ministers.

However, Mamita was raped and killed as she recently had warned president of the school management committee Govind Sahu of bringing the illicit activities to the fore, alleged Mamita’s kin adding that truth will come out within 10 hours if the police investigate the incident without any pressure at higher level.

Meanwhile, opposition BJP and Congress leaders have alleged involvement of Minister of State (Home) Dibyashankar Mishra in the case.

While both the parties have been strongly demanding removal of the concerned Minister since yesterday, members of Odisha Congress’ student wing today hurled eggs at his Government residential quarters here. The agitators led by Chhatra Congress President Yashir Nawaz also attempted to barge inside the Government quarters during their protest.

In a latest development, Balangir police arrested main accused Govind Sahu from Budhipadar in the district, a few hour after the cops announced cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for sharing information about him. He had escaped from police custody on October 17 and was absconding since then.
