Manish Anurag murder case: IIC transferred, another cop suspended

Bhubaneswar: In ongoing probe into murder case of journalist Navin Das’ son Manish Anurag, Tamando Police Station IIC was transferred and one Constable was suspended for allegedly running an illegal bar in Bhubaneswar.

Based on a probe report under supervision of Additional DCP on allegation of operation of a bar by a police official till late night, the Commissionerate Police transferred Tamando Police Station IIC Pramod Patnaik to the DCP Bhubaneswar Office and placed Constable Prasanna Behera under suspension, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash today.

“The bar in Hotel South City was being run illegally. In connection with Manish Anurag murder case, a separate case was lodged for running the bar till late night. During the probe, it was found that the license of the bar was expired. On the basis of probe report, action has been taken against the police personnel for violating the COVID-19 guidelines,” Dash told media persons.

The 30-year-old Manish Anurag, son of Nirbhay Editor Navin Das, was found dead in a pond at Patrapada village under Tamando Police Station on October 10.

The Commissionerate Police cracked the death mystery by arresting associates of the deceased youth — Amrit Biswal, Dinesh Mohapatra and Mrutyunjay Mishra.

The police revealed that Manish was murdered by his friends following altercation inside and outside the Hotel South City over bill payment on October 9 night in Patrapada locality. Later, the accused three disposed of the body in the water near by the hotel in wee hours of October 10.
