Mohammed Moquim moves SC over annulment of his election as Cuttack-Barabati MLA

Cuttack: Days after the Orissa High Court annulled the election of Mohammed Moquim as Cuttack-Barabati MLA, the Congress leader moved the Supreme Court challenging the lower court’s verdict.

Moquim has sought the apex court’s stay order on the High Court’s ruling.

Notably, the High Court’s move came while hearing a petition filed by BJD leader Debashish Samantaray, who had challenged the election of Moquim alleging that he suppressed facts with respect to the criminal cases pending against him while filing his nomination papers.

Samantaray had further alleged in the petition that Moquim did not disclose correct facts about his assets and liabilities.

Worth mentioning, Samantaray had lost to Moquim in the Cuttack-Barabati assembly constituency in the 2019 polls.

On the other hand, Moquim said he will contest the upcoming assembly polls from the same constituency.

“The decision of the court will not impact the fact that I will contest the 2024 assembly elections from Cuttack-Barabati seat. I am always with the people of the constituency,” he had said.

“I had furnished correct affidavits for the 2019 polls,” he added.
