Murder accused cons Odisha villagers of Rs 12 cr!

Scores of villagers from Gopiballabhpur and Gopinathpur mouza in Kushakila village under Jarapada police station limits in Odisha’s Angul district knocked on the doors of district magistrate on Monday seeking his intervention as Jhasaketan Rout, a murder accused, has collected nearly Rs 12 core from them promising high returns.

Notably, Jhasaketan Rout (35) is presently in custody for killing and burying the bodies of Jogeswar and Hiranakshya Sahu on February 4. He had also confessed of killing two more persons, Abala Garnaik (60) and her nephew Kumud Sahu (30) of Kukurpeta village, earlier last year.

The uneducated and naive villagers had received crores of rupees after their land was acquired by companies like Tata, Nalco, Kalinga Coal Ltd, etc.

Jhasaketan Rout, acting as an insurance advisor and chit fund agent, had promised them high returns and had collected Rs 11, 94, 67, 434 from around 60 villagers from these two mouzas.

Meanwhile, the distressed villagers have threatened to commit suicide if their money is not recovered.
