Murder case accused injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A person accused in a murder case was injured in an encounter with police in Rajnagar area of Odisha’s Kendrapara district today.

Sanjay Biswal alias Babu, the injured, has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

He had yesterday allegedly opened fire and shot a local dead in Kandira village under Rajnagar police limits for opposing consumption of liquor in public.

While Babu was travelling on a motorcycle on Rajnagar-Gupti road early this morning, police tried to intercept him near Kurunti. In a bid to escape, he opened fire at the cops.

During retaliation by the policemen, Babu sustained bullet injuries on his leg and fell from the two-wheeler. He was initially admitted to the Rajnagar community health centre (CHC) in a critical condition, later shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and eventually taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital.

More than 10 criminal cases including those of murder and pending against him in Aul area of the district, police sources said. A revolver and bullets have been seized from his possession.
