Nabakalebara: Cong slams Odisha govt on tardy infra work

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) chief Prasad Harichandan Tuesday slammed the state government for missing its self-imposed deadline of June 30 for completion of all infrastructural work with regard to the Nabakalebara festival.
“We had shown video footage of work then and had warned the government that work will not be completed in time. As everyone can see, work remains incomplete. The most unfortunate thing is that work hasn’t made any progress since we had shot the video. Drainage, sewerage, sewage … nothing has been completed. We thought there would be some minor irregularity,but it has turned out to be a huge fiasco. We apprehend that this government doesn’t have the minimum sincerity for the smooth conduct of the Nabakalebara Rath Yatra. The Chief Minister has remained tight-lipped till date on Nabakalebara. Apart from vesting the responsibility to four ministers and a person with minister rank, no concrete steps have been taken. We have prayed before Lord Jagannath, we hope and wish that this Nabakalebara Rath Yatra festival – the festival of pride of this race – be completed smoothly without hassles,” said Harichandan.
The BJD fielded three ministers to refute the charge made by the PCC chief.
“More than 95% of our work has been completed. Energizing process will begin on July 2. Some minor works by the GED like installing ACs at some places are pending. Almost everything is complete. By 7th of this month, everything will be completed-up-to-date. We will be providing power through the ring to radial mode. It’s a three-way power supply. One feeder from Jatni side, one direct from Samagara and another through Brahmagiri and Konark, its N-1-1 system. Our endeavour is to ensure 99% failsafe power supply,” said Pranab Prakash Das, Energy Minister.
“I strongly believe that devotees on Nabakalebara Rath Yatra will have smooth darshan of the Lords. Construction of all required infrastructure for the purpose has been completed,” said Puspendra Singhdeo, Minister for Housing and Urban Development.
“Work on the five-storey Maternal & Child Health (MCH) building adjacent to the district headquarters hospital is almost complete. Apart from that, a three-storeyed structure at TB & Chest hospital has also been completed and a 200 bed facility building has been completed at the Gopabandhu Ayurvedic Hospital. Infrastructure projects worth around Rs 25-30 crore has been completed. Internal arrangements inside hospitals – from beds to equipment -everything is ready,” said Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Health and Family Welfare.
