Woman dies after being hit by truck at Chauliaganj in Odisha’s Cuttack, husband critical

Cuttack: A woman was killed as a scooter on which she and her husband were travelling was hit by a truck from behind near Durga Mandap at Chauliaganj locality in Cuttack City, today morning. The man sustained grievous injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment in critical condition.

The deceased woman and her husband were residents of Gatiroutpatana locality in the city.

According to a police source, the couple was on their way to Cuttack City when they met with a fatal road mishap leading to the death. The duo fell on the ground after being hit by the truck.

“The woman died on the spot and the man was critically injured,” an eyewitness expressed.

Some locals rescued the man and rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in the city.

On being informed, Chauliaganj police reached the accident site and seized the two vehicles. Police sent the woman’s body to hospital for post-mortem.

Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe to ascertain the exact reason behind the road mishap.

The truck driver has been detained by Chauliaganj police and is being interrogated now.
