Nightwatchman shot dead in Odisha

In a shocking incident, a nightwatchman was shot dead by an unidentified youth in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district this morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, identified as Somnath Das, working as a contractual nightwatchman at the office of the executive engineer, Rural Development, had come to the office at Tirtol-Majijanga Nurua Chhak at about 7.30 AM from his native village Chadra to perform puja when unidentified assailants came in two bikes and opened 4-5 rounds of fire at him from point blank of which four bullets hit his chest.

The office staffs, who came to the office for morning duty, found Das lying in a pool of blood inside the grill of the office. Following information, police rushed to the spot rushed Das to the district headquarters hospital in an ambulance where the doctors pronounced him as brought dead.

While the exact cause of the murder was not immediately known, sources in the locality said that the deceased had a tiff with some contractors four days ago.

Meanwhile, police are examining the footage from two CCTVs placed at the entrance door of the office.
