“The ‘no helmet, no petrol’ rule will be put into effect from June 20 so that two-wheeler riders would become conscious and use helmets to minimize accidents,” Twin City Commissioner YB Khurania said.

It may be mentioned that the Khurda district administration and transport department authorities have already announced to implement the ‘no helmet, no petrol’ rule in the capital city from June 15. Apart from two-wheelers, the rule will also be applicable to four-wheeler drivers not using seat belts.

Notably, Cuttack becomes the fourth city in the state after Bargarh, Rourkela and Bhubaneswar to implement such initiative.

The move comes after the incidents of increasing road accidents in the state where at least 175 people were killed in 600 road mishaps in Bhubaneswar last year.
