No let up in heat wave in western Odisha; toll reaches 21

With the blistering heat wave continuing to torment the entire Western Odisha region, the sunstroke death toll in the state rose to 21 today.

There was no let up in the gruelling heat wave in western Odisha as temperature in 11 districts went up to 40 degree Celsius and above today.

The office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), which has received reports of 108 deaths, said 21 deaths have been confirmed as sunstroke related deaths while 26 are due to other reasons. The remaining cases are under investigation by the district collectors, it added.

While Titlagarh remained the hottest place with 45.4 degrees, temperature soared to 40 degrees and above in Angul (43.5), Jharsuguda (43), Keonjhar (40), Sambalpur (44.4), Sundargarh (42), Hirakud (43.6), Talcher (41.6), Bhawanipatna (44.5), Bolangir (44), Phulbani (41.1), Malkangiri (41) and Sonepur (44.6).
