Odisha boy ends life as father occupied with election work fails to bring biryani

Balasore: In a highly unfortunate incident, a 13-year-old boy allegedly ended his life by suicide as his father failed to bring biryani for him at Govindpur village under Nilagiri block of Odisha’s Balasore district, yesterday.

According to reports, son of Manoranjan Mahanna, a student of class-8, had repeatedly told his father to get some biryani for him.

However, Manoranjan, who is a ward member candidate in the panchayat polls, could not bring biryani for his son as he was occupied with election-related works. The boy was reportedly disappointed as his father returned home empty-handed on the fateful day.

The deceased was later found hanging from the ceiling of a room in the night. He was rushed to the Khantapada Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem. A pall of gloom descended on the village today as the last rites of the boy was performed.
