Odisha continues to sizzle under heat wave

Odisha continued to reel under an intense heat wave while the coastal districts got some respite with the mercury dropping considerably, the Met Office said on Wednesday. However, the people experienced high humidity there.

Seven places recorded temperature above 40 degrees Celsius. Hirakud recorded maximum temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius followed by Sambalpur at 41.9 degrees Celsius, and Bolangir at 41.5 degrees Celsius, said a bulletin of Bhubaneswar Met department.

Both Titlagarh and Bhabanipatna registered 40.5 degrees Celsius. The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 31.5 degrees Celsius, said the Met Office.

The Met department predicted that monsoon may arrive in the state on June 17.

“We are expecting that some parts of the state would experience monsoon rainfall by June 17,” said Bhubaneswar Met department director Sarat Chandra Sahu.

Some parts of the state may experience gusty wind and rainfall in the next 24 hours till Thursday evening. (IANS)
