Odisha Crime Branch alerts cops about fake job portal; issues advisory

Bhubaneswar:  As part of its crackdown on cyber fraud,  the Odisha Crime Branch (CB) has alerted the state police about a fake website that has been cheating job seekers on the pretext of proving employment.

In an advisory to all district SPs,  DCPs of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack  and  Superintendent Railway Police (SRP) of Rourkela and Cuttack, the Crime Branch said the website www.shinejob.tech, launched by fraudsters, is hosted on German IP Protocol.

Describing the Modus Operandi of the cyber fraudsters, the CB said the website has different web pages and soon after the user access the website for job, he/she will be directed to the web page to submit her/his identity details, credit card details and CVV number. The website charges the users Rs 10 for applying job.  Further, the user is redirected to another web page, where the applicant will be asked to submit PayTM pin. At the end the website shows payment gateway error, informed the CB.

After getting the details, the fraudsters hack the ATM card and CVV number to withdraw money from their bank accounts, the CB cautioned, adding that the original website URL is www.shine.com.

The Crime Branch listed the following precautions to be followed:

  •  DO NOT blindly trust the URL of any website, because a little change in the
alphabet in domain appears as original.
  •  VERIFY THE DOMAIN name from friends or person having knowledge about
    its genuineness.
  • User must not give financial details i.e. ATM Card/Credit Card number, CVV number, PayTM PIN number, as it is not asked any where.
  • User must check that the payment page must be UPI ( PayTM) based page, when he is redirected for payment.
  • Always have doubt in mind, when the registration charges to be paid is very
    less (Rs. 10-)
