Odisha Guv, CM condole Pyarimohan’s demise

Governor SC Jamir and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of former Rajya Sabha MP and founder of Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) Pyarimohan Mohapatra.

The Chief Minister conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram also expressed grief over the demise of Mohapatra.

Pradhan said his death has created a void in Odisha politics which cannot be filled up. Mohapatra had influenced the contemporary Odisha politics and was an able administrator, he said.

Among others, Leader of the Opposition Narasingha Mishra, State BJP president Basant Panda, leader of the BJP Legislature Party KV Singhdeo, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan also condoled Mohapatra’s death.

Notably, Mohapatra passed away at the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai at about 9.40 PM last evening. He was 77.

The bureaucrat-turned politician was put on ventilator support since Friday morning after his health condition deteriorated.

Mohapatra was undergoing treatment in Mumbai since last six months. First he was undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital and later at Hinduja Hospital. He was detected with a malignant tumor in lungs.

Mohapatra had undergone two surgeries after he was detected with a malignant tumor in his lungs. He was also administered chemotherapy for the ailment.
