The High Court allowed Patra to go on bail against the production of a surety.

Patra was arrested by the police on a complaint of extortion at Badambadi Bus stand area in Cuttack filed against him by Bhubaneswar Mini Bus Association.

However, the complainant later filed an affidavit with the court stating that they have mutually settled the matter.

Sources said the court granted bail to Patra on the basis of this settlement.

However, Patra will remain in jail since he has several other cases pending against him.

Notably, Bhuan– the former secretary of Cuttack Private Bus Owners’ Association—was arrested on February 21 this year by the Twin City Commissionerate Police from here. He is now lodged in Choudwar Circle Jail.

A day prior to his arrest, a 20-member team led by Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora along with two platoons of police personnel had raided Bhuan’s residence at Shankarpur and seized over Rs 76 lakh in cash and several incriminating documents during the search at his residence.

He has several cases against him which include murder, attempt to murder, extortion and bomb hurling cases.
