Bhubaneswar, Aug 12:

The House Committee of the Odisha Assembly, which held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Speaker Niranjan Pujari to discuss ways and means of countering the damages and losses likely to be caused to the state by the upcoming controversial Polavaram project in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, today decided to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to look at the interests of the state and its people.

“The house committee has decided that it would meet the Prime Minister of India and submit a memorandum urging him to safeguard the interest of the state. Since it would submerge some parts of Malkangiri district, we will continue our protest against the project,” said Manas Madkami, MLA of Malkangiri to media persons here.

However, the Speaker refused to comment over the issue.

The meeting of the House Committee was constituted with members from all political parties to address the issues of state vis-a-vis the multipurpose dam project in Andhra Pradesh.
