Odisha man lures minor girl with chocolate, rapes her

Bhubaneswar: A 60-year-old man was arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to rape a 9-year-old girl in the outskirts of Odisha capital today.

The accused identified as Bhagirathi Behera of Rental Colony had allegedly lured his neighbour’s 9-year-old daughter to nearby Dasapur forest on his moped after offering her a chocolate.

While Bhagirathi was attempting to rape the minor girl, alerted by her cries some locals who were inside the forest rushed to the spot and overpowered him.

They informed the police and handed him over to them.

Later, the minor girl’s family lodged a complaint in this regard at the Mahila police station.

“That old man has raped my daughter after luring her with a chocolate at around 1.30 PM,” victim’s mother told reporters.

“She has been allegedly raped after being lured with a chocolate. The case is under investigation. The victim and the accused are neighbours and they were known to each other,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.

The accused was forwarded to court after his medical examination.
